DESCRIPTION

Medical science now knows that the presence of Candida Albicans
(yeast) organisms in the body can gradually diminish immune function.  The result is an increased susceptibility to bacteria and especially viral infections.

Such infections are called opportunistic infections because they can only flourish in an  depleted immune environment.  These infections use the opportunity of the diminished immune function to explosively multiply, and eventually kill the patient.  The present accepted therapy of desperately trying to kill the bacterial infection with super antibiotics may in some cases be lifesaving, but soon other infections will inevitably occur which can then be resistant to further antibiotic therapy.  At the same time, these super antibiotics begin to destroy the friendly bacteria which keeps certain other organisms including candida under control.

TERMINOLOGY

CANDIDA:  A yeast organism normally found in the lower intestinal tract of all humans.  It assists in a normal symbiotic relationship with friendly bacteria in the tract which feeds on it.  When it migrates from the tract to other areas, it can explosively multiply.  Examples:  vaginal yeast infection, thrush in the mouth, athlete's foot, jock itch.

LACTOBACILLUS ACIDOPHILUS:  The major friendly bacteria found in the lower intestinal tract of humans which feeds on candida organisms.  If these friendly bacteria are depleted, the candidia overgrows and produces lower intestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, rolling gas, cramping, etc.

SYSTEMIC CANDIDIASIS:  A condition in which he yeast has migrated, often through what is termed a "leaky gut" into the internal parts of the body.  It now often mutates into a fungal form which is much more virile and produces much more toxic material as a waste product of its metabolism.  It are these metabolic waste products which overload our body's detoxification abilities and produce the typical signs of systemic candidiasis.

GLYCEMIC INDEX:  A method of categorizing foods according to the ease and speed with which they are converted to sugar in the body.  Elevated sugar levels in the urine are common in patients with systemic candidiasis. Candidiasis patients should carefully consult the glycemic index in choosing the foods they consume.

Systemic Candidasis can be the initiating infection that depletes the immune system to the point that other opportunisitc infections find a fertile field in which to multiply.  The presence of yeast turned fungus will continuously deplete the normal defenses which would be available to the body.

Candida Albicans resides in the intestinal tract of all humans.  It is usually kept under control by another organism - the so called friendly bacteria which normally inhabit the gastrointestinal tract.
These friendly bacteria, lactobacillus acidophilus for example, use the candida yeast as their food.  They also considerably enhance the function of the colon.

The most common cause of overgrowth of candida albicans is the use of antibiotics, without reimplanting the friendly bacteria.  Candida infection was only a minor problem before antibiotics.  When an antibiotic is used, the killing of bacteria is non-specific; it literally kills the good bacteria along with the bad bacteria.  One of the most vulnerable friendly bacteria to the destructive forces of antibiotics is lactobacillus acidophilus.  Snce most antibiotics are given by mouth and travel through the intestinal tract before being absorbed, their action takes place first in the intestinal tract.  By destroying the natural enemy of the candida yeast, we allow the yeast to reproduce without control.

Another factor is the use of birth control pills and other steroid hormones.  Steroid hormones stimulate the overgrowth of the candida while at the same time depressing the immune system.

The first sign of overgrowth of the candida yeast is gastrointestinal discomfort.
This may be in the form of bloating, an excess feeling of fullness, diarrhea, constipation, alternating diarrhea and constipation, itching anus, burning stool, rolling gas, cramps, etc.

This candida overgrowth now has a chance to invade other parts of the body.  The area surrounding the external anus offers a fine moist mucus-like membrane for colonies of yeast to start growing in a totally new area.

TREATMENT

Medical treatment for candidiasis is generally oral aniti-fungal medications such as nystatin and ketaconazole.

Contrary to most beliefs, systemic candidiasis is not due to eating yeast or yeast containing foods, vinegar or even the eating of sugar. Consumption of sugar feeds the existing candida overgrowth, so sugar should be avoided at all costs.
Adherence to a diet which is high in protein and fat and eating only those foods which are under 50 on the glycemic index  is the best diet to follow.

If you are concerned about protein and fats, read "The Big FAT Lie"

Of all the supplements available, concentrated liquid oxygen products are the most effective in helping systemic candidiasis victims. They are hardly a total cure, but do take the individual a long way on the road to recovery.
The next most important procedure is to reimplant acidophilus in the gut. The protocol is as follows: Use 5 capsules acidophilus at 11 am (between breakfast and lunch) and 5 capsules at 4:30 pm (between lunch and dinner). Do this for 10 days (100 capsules). The need for this to be on an empty stomach cannot be overemphasized. Do not take acidophilus with food - only on an empty stomach! If you still feel you have a problem, dump 10 acidophilus capsules into 4 ounces liquid yogurt or regular yogurt diluted with warm water, put into a rubber syringe (found in all drug stores) and inject into rectum. Best position is to lie on your back in a bathtub with your feet on wall. Retain for twenty minutes or more. Once you have reimplanted the bacteria, they will control any overgrowth you may have in the gut, which will also reduce your possibility of candida absorption through a "leaky gut."

Pancreatic enzymes maybe helpful.  Although no studies exist to prove it, it is suspected that garlic (about 4 grams per day) can be effective as an anitifungal.  Volatile oils such as oregano, thyme, peppermint, rosmary and tea tree have antuifungal properties.  These essential oils must be taken in capsule form so that they break down and are absorbed in the small intestines, not the stomach.  Echinacea, while not a cure for candida, has been shown to reduce its severity and prevent its reoccurance.

Candida organisms produce waste toxins that are unusual and foreign to your detox system. Therefore they are a menace to the immune system, which may become constantly stimulated, resulting in immune system fatigue.  An immune support supplement is recommended.

Very few candida patients do not have hormonal problems. DHEA is the "mother" hormone which allows the body to make any of the hormones which are in low supply. I suggest 1 - 50 mg capsule at breakfast.

If you are having trouble getting a good night's sleep, use Melatonin from 3 mg to 9 mg at bedtime. Expect and enjoy the dreams you will have, they are clearing your brain of lots of extraneous garbage!

Drink at least two quarts (8 eight ounce glasses) of purified water every day. This will help both your kidneys and bowels to eliminate properly. If you are still constipated, add milled flaxseed - 2 or 3 heaping tablespoonfuls at breakfast, mix with oatmeal or other allowed cereal. Can also be blended in a drink.

Try to find an exercise that you enjoy for 30 minutes every day. This does much to increase healing endorphins and enkephalins in the brain, as well as toning your body.

Alternative treatments are preferred over conventional approaches which prescribe still more anti-biotic type medications.  In severe cases hospitalizationis required to get the disease process under control.  Dr Donsbach treated Systemic Candidiasis sucessfully at his hospitals for years.  For more information, contact Hilery at 877-499-5881.
