Prostate Cancer
There are approximately 215,000 new cases of prostate cancer (more than breast cancer) in the United States every year. Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in men.

Prostate cancer cells are the slowest growing of all cancer cells.  Because of this, prostate cancer can usually be controlled by alternative methods with a 90 plus percentage rate of remission.

Common symptoms are difficulty or inability to urinate, urinating too often (especially in the middle of the night), pain while urinating, blood in the urine or semen and pain in the lower back, hips, and upper thighs.  However, many men complain of none of these symptoms, yet have advanced prostate cancer.  Prostate cancer is diagnosed by a rectal examination, a blood test, and ultrasound.

The traditional treatment for cancer of the prostate is surgery, a prostatectomy, which is usually successful when the cancer is detected early.  Unfortunately, the results of surgery and also radiotherapy, commonly lead to impotence, urinary incontenence and other side effects.  Experimental treatments such as implanted radiation seeds, hypothermia (freezing) and other procedures while initially well accepted, have proven to be unreliable treatments.

Depending upon age, surgery should not be an option at all because it could do more harm than good.

The protocol that Dr. Donsbach originated has led to a 98 per cent remission rate in studies done at two of his hospitals, one in Poland and one in Mexico.  This protocol is totally non-invasive and usually works even when the patient has bone metastasis (the most common site of spreading prostate cancer) and is in considerable pain.  A proprietary herbal formula and hyperthermia are the two most significant therapies used.  A short hospital stay is necessary to commence the treatment.  For information about hospitals offering the

Few men ever consider their prostate, until it starts to give them problems.  Small in size and large in problems, this gland accounts for a staggering 2.7 million doctor visits in North America each year.  Most men over 40 will experience some type of prostate problem that will affect their sexual and urinary function if they fail to adopt protective measures.

The search for a natural remedy for prostatic hypertrophy has taken giant steps in the past few years.  Saw Palmetto, Pygeum, Stinging Nettle, Flax Oil, Pumpkin Seed Oil have all had their day in the sun.  And rightfully so, because they are all effective to some degree.  But some patients have more resistant problems and require even more assistance.

Because Dr. Donsbach's hospitals have treated so many prostate patients with high PSA readings, indicative of prostate cancer, an urgent need became apparent: Find a formula that really helps the prostate patient.

And that search led to the various sterols, some first found in the African potato and some also found in many other nuts and seeds.

Sterols and sterolins offer another, and more effective, option for the nutritional relief of symptoms of prostate problems.  European researchers have confirmed, in a study published in The Lancet, that plant sterols and sterolins are effective in eliminating the symptoms of the most common prostate problems.  German urologists have been prescribing sterols and sterolins instead of chemical drugs for over 20 years with excellent results.  All plants contain sterols and sterolins, as well as, most fish and seafood.  Nuts and seeds are some of the best food sources, explaining the folk remedy - pumpkin seeds.

THE AUTOIMMUNE LINK

There is a growing number of researchers that are of the opinion that prostate problems and even cancer may be the result of an over stressed immune system that actually ends up attacking normal tissue of the body.  This is called an autoimmune reaction and is well documented in such conditions as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, psoriasis, etc.

Sterols and sterolins offer relief of autoimmune symptoms, and particularly the symptoms of prostate problems, by modulating the immune system and stopping the unwarranted attack on normal cells.  Slowly, the inflammation and disturbances in normal tissue are reduced and the symptoms go away.  Here are excerpts from some recent convincing studies:

“Recent research indicates that plant-derived cholesterol analogues, known as sterols and sterolins, may have excellent health-promoting benefits.  Human research indicates plant sterols and sterolins have important anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer, anti-diabetic, anti-cancer and T-cell proliferation activity.  They have adaptogenic properties which are very valuable.”

South African Journal of Science, v. 93, pp. 263-268, June 1999, Karl H. Pegel, Dept. of Chemistry and Applied Chemistry, Univ. of Natal, Durban

“This randomized placebo controlled study involved 177 patients with enlarged prostate glands.  The study was designed to assess the safety and efficacy of using beta-sitosterol in treating this condition.  Statistically significant results over the placebo control were noted.  Quality of life scores and prostate symptom scores showed statistically significant improvement.  These results indicate that beta-sitosterol is, in fact, an effective treatment for individuals with prostate problems.”

British Jrnl of Urology, v. 80(3), pp. 427-432, Sept. 1997, Klippel, K.F; Hiltl, D.M.; Schipp, B.; German BPH Phyto Study Group

“A plant-based fat has been shown to inhibit the growth of prostate, colon and breast cancer cells, say University of Buffalo researchers.  The study, presented at the annual meeting of the Federation of American Societies of Experimental Biology showed that the phytosterol, beta-sitosterol, reduced the number of cancer cells grown in a laboratory setting by 66 percent.  It is known that beta-sitosterol reduces the levels of testosterone and certain enzymes that metabolize testosterone into more active forms.  They also found that beta-sitosterol enhances an intracellular signaling system that tells cells not to divide.”

QUERCETIN - A PROMISING NEWCOMER

Quercetin could be helpful in preventing and treating prostate cancer, research at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. indicates.  “Our laboratory results showed quercetin blocks the hormone activity in androgen-responsive human prostate cancer cell lines,” said Nianzeng Xing, a Mayo researcher who presented his findings at the recent meeting in New Orleans of the American Association for Cancer Research.  “By blocking the androgen activity, the growth of prostate cancer cells can be prevented or stopped,” he said.  “Our study suggests quercetin may be a  non-hormonal approach to accomplish that goal.”

PROPRIETARY HERBAL BLEND

Using other herbs from China traditionally used in prostate problems, Dr Donsbach's laboratory compounded the formula, PC Plus, in 1999 - originally as a liquid.  Although extremely effective, there were complaints about the taste, so it was reformulated and made into capsules.  Since that initial formulation many users reported dramatic drops in PSA’s in as little as three weeks.  As the word spread and more people began using the formula with equal results, the most common question was:  What is the secret ingredient? Are there hormones in this formula?

The questions are best answered by the lab tests which have been performed - infrared spectrographs, HPLC tests - all completely verify lack of any contamination or addition of hormones or other chemicals.  By its very nature, however, the formula is loaded with phytoestrogens which will cause some symptoms similar to the use of female hormones, such as, breast tenderness.  That is a trade-off, you must be the one to decide what is best for you.  (Some men have found that the use of Progesterone Cream topically or the addition of a Curcumin supplement reduces breast tenderness.)

The herbs used are:

Reishi (Ganodema Lucidum)  Long a remedy in Oriental folklore for cancer of all kinds, Reishi contains numerous glycans, three of which have significant antitumor activity against sarcoma.  Proteins isolated from this herb exhibit immunomodulatory activity.

Baikal Scullcap (Scutellaria Baicalensis)  One of the flavonoids, Scullcap contains ingredients which are antiproliferative and anti-inflammatory.  Lab results indicate stimulation of apoptosis and antimutagenic activity.

Rabdosia (Rabdosia Rubescens Hara)  Reported to have an anti-cancer function for prostate cancer, as well as, esophageal, liver and breast cancer.

Dyer’s Woad (Isatis Indigotica Fortune)  An ingredient, indirubin, is reported to have anti-neoplastic activity and is widely used in leukemia.

     Mum (Dendranthema Morifolium Tzelev)

Saw Palmetto (Serenoa Repens)  Contains phytoestrogens which lower endogenous androgens in host animals.  The lipid/sterol complex inhibits proliferation of benign and cancerous prostate cells.

San-Qi Ginseng (Panax Notoginseng)  Regular use of this herb lowers the incidence of cancer and suppresses proliferation of different tumor types.

Licorice (Glycyrrhiza Glabra L.)  Known mostly for its anti-mutagenic, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial effects, this herb also has specific cytotoxic activity.

Glowing Reports - PSA's Decline with Lower and Lower Dosage!

Dr. Donsbach's assistant, Hilery, has monitored 4 internet prostate cancer support groups daily for the past year.  (The ones she recommends are: natural_prostate_treatments@yahoogroups.com which started up after PC Spes was taken off the market by the members of a PC Spes users support group and epcel@yahoogroups.com formed by some well informed UK prostate cancer patients.  Hilery reports, "The only herbal/nutritional supplement that consistently gets great reports on any of the prostate cancer support groups I monitor is PC PLUS."

Announcement and Update:

There has been some confusion about the many different prostate support products being offered on the internet and in health food stores.  Prostasolve, PC Plus, PC Hope, and the European counterpart, Prostasol, are the only nutritional supplements that offer Dr. Donsbach's prostate support formula.

The product PC Hope is exactly the same as the product PC Plus.  It is made by Health Advances, USA, Inc., Dr. Donsbach's manufacturing company; the only difference being the Distributor's own private label.

Prostasol was the creation of Dr. Ben Pfeifer in Switzerland in collaboration with Dr. Donsbach.  It started out as kind of a combination of Dr. Donsbach's PC Plus and his Prosta-Plex put together into a larger, heavier capsule.  Dr. Donsbach and Dr. Pfeifer have been working together for years and have recently decided to combine their efforts and knowledge.

Here is Dr. Donsbach's official announcement of this merger:

HHealth Advances USA, Inc. is pleased to announce the merging of various interests in the advancement of specialty products, including what has been known as PC Plus.

With the excellent research and long term study performed by Professor Ben Pfeifer, M.D. in Switzerland, we are rapidly achieving our goal of proving this nutraceutical product as a safe and effective alternative approach to the modification of stimulatory processes associated with prostate cancer.

Since the work was done in Europe under the name of Prostasol, I have come to the conclusion we should avoid confusion and amalgamate under a new name.  There is no change in the formula, but the products known as "PC Plus" and "Prostasol"will now be known as "Prostasolve."

Thank you for your understanding,

Kurt W. Donsbach

Suggested Use Information

The normal dosage of Prostasolve is 4 capsules per day for 1-2 months, then 2 capsules per day for 2 months, then 1 - 2 capsules per day for 2 months, then 1 capsule per day for an extended period.  Let your PSA results lead you in reducing the dosage.  Because phytosterols may have some estrogenic effects, some patients complain of breast tenderness at larger dosages.  This breast tenderness is to be expected and will disappear as the dosage is reduced.  When Progesterone Cream is applied once or twice daily to the breast area, the tenderness usually is alleviated. Curcumin is also recommended to help reduce these sometimes uncomfortable effects.   For my prostate cancer patients, I always use the companion product, known as Prosta-Plex, at a dosage of 4 capsules daily for added impact.  Prosta-Plex has shown to be particularly effective in helping to relieve the debilitating symptoms of BPH (benign prostatic hypertrophy) and serves as a great preventative for this condition.

"This has proven to be an affordable and effective nutritional support program for the serious prostate patient."        Kurt W. Donsbach, DC, ND, Ph.D.
